Video on the homepage

by Whitney Anderson on May 10, 2010

We just launched a new look on the homepage by replacing our large image/flash area with a new video flash piece.  I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.  The concept and design was done in house and then our friends at New City helped us with some tweaks and built it for us.  [...]

Special to High on Web. We’ve been busy this past year helping our athletic department webcast sporting events at Roanoke College using Ustream.tv’s Watershed CDN service.  As a result of our efforts, many of our games are now distributed via flash streaming to Watershed, and are displayed on RC Athletics website at maroons.roanoke.edu. This initial [...]

Video is coming soon to our homepage

by Whitney Anderson on March 29, 2010

The Roanoke College homepage has a large flash area that is currently photos and text.   We’ve been thinking about replacing it for some time, but weren’t sure exactly what we wanted to do. Current: We knew that from a content standpoint we wanted to feature our branding and messaging, and we knew that we wanted [...]

Importing & Editing AVCHD Video

by Whitney Anderson on March 18, 2010

So, you have a camera that takes HD video in AVCHD format…now what do you do with it?  I have a Canon HF-200 that takes pretty good HD footage for a $500 camera.   We have a cinematographer for big projects, but we have the Canon to use for small projects. I had trouble with this [...]

Behind the Scenes

by Whitney Anderson on May 1, 2009

Here’s some photos and a video from behind the scenes at our latest video shoot of the Roanoke College Choir at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Roanoke. Our videographer, Steve Mason, used the jib for this shoot and we got some amazing sweeping shots.  I can’t wait to see the footage.

Getting the Most from your Photo or Video Shoot

by Whitney Anderson on April 29, 2009

I attended a presentation yesterday at the CASE Design Institute in Boston titled, Getting the Most Out of Your Photoshoot, presented by Don Hamerman.  I was really looking forward to this session, but was extremely disappointed.   Don is a photographer and has great work, but opened his presentation by saying that he didn’t know what [...]

Web Design Process / Video Production Case Study

by Whitney Anderson on April 27, 2009

I’m attending a presentation about the creation of the Experiential Learning website for Northeastern University at the CASE Design Institute in Boston presented by Robert Davidson, John Ombelets and Pamela Rodriguez. The website prominently features many “video slideshows” linked from the homepage.  The videos are really slideshows with pictures, a voice-over and music.  They didn’t [...]

A YouTube of Our Own

by Michael Santoroski on February 19, 2009

Our VP asked us last week to create a place for professors to upload audio and video. I had been pushing for using YouTube for this, but the various issues of too much public access and pesky “who owns what” questions made us look to a more internal solution. It would be trivial to create [...]

Roanoke on YouTube

by Whitney Anderson on September 10, 2008

We’re in the middle of a mascot contest and are fortunate to have some good material video-wise.  These videos are featured on our classiccollege.com website and YouTube. We also recently updated our channel to fall in line with our brand and be a little more interesting. Also, last month we were the #21st most viewed [...]

YouTube Videos and Ingeniux

by Caleb Pierce on May 9, 2008

We have created a way to insert YouTube videos into our site using the Ingeniux CMS. Here’s a preview of a video running in our new college template: This was quite a nut to crack, but after numerous hours and a large order from Starbucks, we completed the process. The problem existed in the fact [...]
